Anyone following the NBA? This year NBA finals have two teams that play with great team spirit: Detroit Pistons and San Antonio Spurs.

In the 2-3-2 format which the Spurs won the first 2 at home and followed by 2 won by Pistons and 1 won by Spurs tonight. The series is now 3-2 favoring Spurs.

Yao Ming, the favorite chinese player plays for Houston Rockets. There might be a new Chinese player this year at 7 feet 8 inches tall. Sun Ming Ming, I believe is his name.

cannot consider my self a fan ler, but i like nba. yup the spurs won today (19th June) but Duncan off-form ler, miss so many free throws :weird:

nasib baik horry save spurs today, but if i remember correctly, he also miss quite a number of 3's :p

but i must agree although pistons and spurs not the flair flair type of team, they are a good team nonetheless.......but i wish miami would face spurs.....shaq vs duncan & wade vs parker, now that would have been a good show

The current NBA games got a big change around 2001/2002 when for the first time the NBA rule was changed to allow for zone defense. In this system, those team that have just 1 superstar (that gets all the money) and surrounded by mediocre ones do not usually do well. That's why you don't see too many great one-on-one play anymore. Teams that do well usually have many role players such as Detroit, Spurs, Supersonics***.
Glaringly absent from this year playoffs:

Lakers (superstar: Kobe Bryant)
Minnesota Timberwolves (* 100 million dollar man Kevin Garnett, last year all star MVP).

*** my favorite over achiever :), great team work, great coaching, great chemistry. Too bad, probably won't see the same team next year due to too many free agents.

The original dream team were formed with the best US players who represented USA with pride. The recent ones were a shadow of the original; too many great players opted out: needed rest, personal problems, injuries, etc. Also, the international teams are getting better, many have players in NBA, plus they have much more training time as compared to USA team usually formed last minute and also not accustomed to the international rules.

My personal dream team:

Shaq O'Neil 7' 1" (Center)
Tim Duncan 7' (Power Forward)
Kevin Garnett 7' 1" (Small Forward)
LeBrons James 6' 8" (Shooting Guard)
Kobe Bryant 6' 7" (Point Guard)

Reserves
Vince Carter (Forward)
Tim McGrady (Guard)
Ray Allen (Guard)
Ben Wallace (Forward/Center)

Maybe then they can get some respects back :) Who would your dream team consist of?

Hope you get to enjoy some games up North. I'm just a spectator, never play much of the game myself :) Would rather watch badminton but it does not get much tv time here.

Wah, u place garnett, bryant and james together?? it will be a "slamming "show!

for me, my choice of dream team was realized before ..... in 1992 olympics. for me, that is 'the' best team. michael jordan, larry bird, charles barkley, magic johnson, scottie pippen, david robinson(i think hes there) etc etc....... they played with skills and passion that nowadays team lack.....

He needs to be a lot more aggressive. Audrey and I like Yao Ming though, we went to watch two games when Yao Ming was in town. Torn between cheering for Sonics and Yao Ming, so we cheered for both.

I like the www.yaomingmania.com site until the owner merged ("more like sold") it with another site.

hm.... i read somewhere before that player and coaches are loath to join the dream team (US national team) due to subsequent injuries and drop in performances back home....

Before the Dream Team came about, US were represented by college players in international scene and US were doing well until their dominance was a little shaken (the international teams got better). So US used the best players to represent the country and the Dream Team was born. Also, I think the trend had already started then was that many college players did not play our their 4 year eligibility but opted early to turn pro. Currently, many didn't even go to college, just jump straight from high school to NBA. Some good examples: Kevin Garnett, Kobe Bryant, Lebrons James, Rashad Lewis, Amare Sodomire (sp?). Bad: Kwame Brown (lottery pick a few years back by Michael Jordan when he was at Washington Wizard), he is currently a reserve :(

I must say a good US college team would beat most national teams. I remember during college, Italy national team would come over to play with my college team for some warm up games and always got beaten badly.

Hey guys, I know the NBA season is over... but the draft just finished yesterday with No 1 pick goes to a guy from Australia (Andrew Bogut) ... also a Croatian (7 footer). H2O should be proud.

Anyway, the WNBA is in full swing currently.

Where have all the real NBA fan gone :) :) :)

Sun Ming Ming, the 7' 9", I thought would be in the draft. Did he withdraw from it?
