As today, 31st May is a the Non-tobacco Day worldwide, let's have a little discussion here.
What do you think of smoking?
Is it a waste of money and killing yourself slowly?
What about the non-smokers? How do you view the passive smoke you inhale?
Does smoking really take away work/life pressure, as claimed by smokers?
Can we have a poll on this?
I would like to know how many of us do smoke in this forum.
All votes are confidential and this poll will last for 3 days only.

B'coz the smokers are ignoring the non-smokers as usual?
I think that although smokers have the right to smoke, they do not have any right to endanger the lives of others, especially their family members and friends.
It saddens me to see parents smoking in cars, restaurants in front of their young kids. It is like lacing the air that their children with cyanide.
There was a recent article in the papers, of a 5 year old boy who had lungs like an old retiree who had been smoking all his life.
What did the boy to do deserve this?
1. he only needed to have a smoker mother
2. and all she had to do was to smoke 20 cigarettes a day in the kitchen, when the son is in a different room

yes, smoking is a waste of money, but it's a legal activity.
i think smoking does help when you're stressful, but there are other things which one can do to alleviate stress too.
i'm a smoker and really don't mind others smoking at all as long as they don't do it around children and pregnant women.

Euj, nice to to know that you are considerate to everyone but yourself
haha...thanks for the compliment, i think.
the rate of smoking has actually increased around the world in the last few years after decreasing steadily through the 80s and 90s. it's mainly cos of newly aflluent asian countries, such as china with their young populations. revenue from tobacco has also increase every year, although most of tobacco revenue actually goes to governments as taxes. wonderful investment - great ROCE and ROE and wonderful free cash flow! :)

for tobacco planter, they are happy to gain some profit when we smoke... but the human is suffer from cancer...
if we dont smoke, tobacco planter make lose profit... so they can go into different industry... maybe plant vege.
even if we dont smoke, we still get some minor % to get cancer when we smell the smoke. this is bad, especially those idiot didnt obey the rules in restaurant or air-con place. still go n smoke...

Boss, you have yet to seen Americans with their pets. I can tell you honestly that a regular household pet has better lives that the homeless folks. In fact, some have even better lives than me and i am not joking here.

well, it's not mutually exclusive. just cos i spend money and time on my pets, doesn't mean i don't spend money and time on humans. also, i think it's too extreme to say, humans are worth more than animals, so we should only spend money on humans. i think most forms of extreme are not healthy...
ahahaha. agreed. dun torture the animal... but some ppl really do torture it.
side track... come back to topic. does smoking release stress n tension?
i think it does...
i don't actually spend much money on my dogs at all. the most expensive bit is the vaccinations - about $100 each a year. besides that i feed them raw chicken wings once a week and also grapes. that's about it.
i don't think it's practical to ban smoking. people should just decide on their own. we're all adults. as long as your smoking doesn't affect others i guess. in fact, i'm also of that opinion when it comes to drugs...

this remind me of the "G". they say ban the smoking... putting the "Tak Nak" smoking campaign but the ciggie still widely sell. i dun think they will totally ban it coz it will affect the economy flow also... :D

i think that prohibition on cigarettes and drugs doesn't work. there are two separate issues here - 1) health 2) moral issue. if it is really more of a health issue, drugs, as are cigarettes, should be made legal, but controlled. that way, those who are on it can be helped out to stop using it. so taking away the moral issue, and tackling the health issue.
