So far we've a KPC corner forum, a General Chat forum and a Hock Chew corner forum...

Any more suggestions for forums in the General section?

2)Tech Talk....(Some younger ones seems to be into Tech stuff)
3)Nostalgic talk..

Hmmm... ok then - we'll see if there are responses to this thread and then we'll decide on one or two more...

At first I thought of suggesting a Computer Help forums, seeing my Dad's computer is also spyware-ridden. Then I thought, why not see the kind of threads you get in the General Chat over a few months and see if there are topics that get talked more about than others, then you can bukak new rooms and put seats inside for these people to talk.

For example: if over the course of a month you get 100 threads started talking about porn then you just HAVE to open a "PORNO DISCUSSION" forums...

Of course, that's just an example...

Maybe...

Too many forums also got a lot of headache leh. Sometimes, I don't even know which forum to post new threads. End up, the everything in a mess and the moderators busy moving threads???

As this is a community forum, I would suggest that we have some topics on asking for assistance/help. Similar to what Hisham has mentioned on Computer Help, we can have a topic where members in this forum is able to "advertise" their expertise.

So far so good. Since it's a General Chat we could have something like:

ICT's, Hi-Tech, Low-Tech.

Then again, Entertainment, Fun & Outings, F&B, Travel etc.

Perhaps something like Money Matters, Finance & Banking, etc.

If you permits, we can include, Confession Corner, Quiet Time, Religions etc.

Agriculture, Aquaculture can be catogerized under CULTURES???

All previous thougths are of substance, like Hisham, Dino, KoChun and the rest.

But after saying all these, we still need to cultivate the Forum Ethics (which I also dunno) coz General Chat will still remain General to many people no matter how specifically we call it.

Thank you for your time to read this. My 25¢ worth....

IMHO, anything to do with politics and religion should not be made as a topical discussion. Politics....lets not get the administrator in trouble with ISA ;) .
Religion wise, not all members in here share the same belief.
My 26¢ opinion!!! ;)

my opinion is that so far things are still managable. but creating too many categories may cause the forum to lose definition. as of now, generally, ppl from all years are participating in threads from other years. now that is a very good thing and i'm glad and proud that we are like one big happy family. :), but when the size increases, it will be quite tedious to keep track on who's doing what. for example, for newbies, the announcement for the gathering as well as the attendees list is lost somewhere in the Administration section. maybe we should have a banner for that to constantly remind everyone about the gathering.

it is in my opinion that what we have created thus far is sufficient. this is based on my personal user experience. even as a person that has a lot of free time, it takes a really long time going through all the different threads, and as each thread grows, time taken to read increases. making an assumption for those with less time on their hands, they would probably look in their own class year for updates, as well a quick browse through the New Posts and not have time for everything else.

anyway, we can do it like hockchew corner... someone created a thread, it went very well, then only create a new category for it. the hockchew corner was brilliant! maybe can have moderators (the hock chew speaking kind) to translate for the benefit of non hockchews. it's quite funny actually.

as for help section, that would be good. i can also volunteer to give support through MSN or Yahoo messenger. as to the basic functionality and usage of the forum for newbies. that may be quite helpful.

Yeaah....I think that currently the number of forums are pretty sufficient for the number of members we have at the moment. You notice that out of 100+ members, only a handful are actively participating at the moment. Too many forums will also result in longer browsing time as pointed out by Hijack Q.
