hi euj, how are you...? it's time for a new thread for you... :)
had a good weekend...? how was shopping trip with indra...?

haha, thanks for starting up another thread for me, lil...

indra had a really good time. i could go with her, cos my friend cam was helping me do up my apartment. so indra went with cam's girlfried, andrea shopping while cam and i went to buy furniture and stuff we needed. the apartment has been completely fixed up. looks lovely now.

indra bought a red skirt which is just above her knees. she wore that to the party we went to last night. she also bought 2 suits - one sort of like a dull, peachy coloured tweed and theother one is a charcoal color. she also bought a top, but i didn't have a look at that one. i think she really enjoyed herelf.

got home at about 4am this morning, so the whole of today has been wasted. just sleeping and lounging around.

indra has just left. she bought over some german sausages, so we had those with steamed veggies and watched CSI.

what about yourself, lil? how was your weekend? and yours, sila?

sounds good, i'd trade my weekend for you anytime right now!!

spent the day doing not much at all yesterday, just grocery shopping, then bought myself some magazines (times, discovery travel)... stayed in for some indian food, that's all, laze about...

today, it's working day so i'm stuck in office right now... taking a quick break so decided to pop in here a little... :)

euj
04-17-2005, 10:01 PM
i wish i had done some grocery shopping too. was feeping a bit peckish just now and all i had was a big pack of chips...feel so guilty now. going to have to work extra hard at the gym tomorrow... :(

LiLiaN
04-17-2005, 10:03 PM
ah well, occasional indulgence is good for your soul... ;)

i didn't do that much grocery shopping actually, just stocked up lots of fruit juice, yoghurts, fruits, and lamb kebab to cook tomorrow for dinner...

euj
04-17-2005, 10:14 PM
unfortunately, those occasional indulgences are becoming all too frequebt for me...

sounds very healthy and yummy. i better do more of that myself. can feel myself putting on a little weight. little belly developing. how do you keep in shape?

LiLiaN
04-17-2005, 10:43 PM
me, i'm the laziest person in the world in terms of physical activities... but of late, i've set myself goal to run marathon so gotta work out whether i like it or not... admittedly, i don't snack much if any... plus i don't smoke and i drink very little alcohol... drink lots of water though...

say maybe once a week/fortnight, i'll be out for lunch with my aunt or something, i do indulge it all, especially with dessert... :) not starving myself type of diet for sure... eat lots of fish if you could, then white meat, then red meat... i don't eat much red meat actually...

right now pretty out of shape... since the cold, i've not been to the gym and i'm still feeling somewhat sluggish... it's terrible, as i'm usually pretty perky type of person with lots of energy to burn... going to hit the gym again tomorrow, but will keep it easy so not to overtax myself...

euj
04-17-2005, 10:46 PM
what do you usually do at the gym? indra usually does classes such as pilates and body pump. i do about an hour of weight and 30 minutes on the cross trainer - i find that's better for me knees and ankles.

LiLiaN
04-17-2005, 11:00 PM
well, i kinda need to build up for long distance running so lately i spend a good bit of time on the treadmill... i do some cross training too, but that's a tough one alright... i also work on the rower...

i tried ashtanga yoga before, hurt like hell (can't even laugh properly for a couple of days after classes - thanks to working out muscles i never knew were there!) but work like a charm... shame that the current timeslot they have doesn't suit me or else i'd go again...

euj
04-17-2005, 11:02 PM
when is your marathon?

LiLiaN
04-17-2005, 11:04 PM
full marathon in october... am also considering doing a series of shorter runs just to see how i go... adidas has this series of gradual distance marathon prior to the full one - 5 miles, 10 miles and 15 miles i think... my friend advised me to do that, would be a great way to measure how much progress i've made and to consider again if i can handle the full marathon... it's not only physically challenging but mentally as well...

euj
04-17-2005, 11:06 PM
i'm sure you'll be able to do it if you really want to. i'm very impressed. i can't do thing like running, cycling or swimming much. i get really bored. my mind just wonders...

LiLiaN
04-17-2005, 11:08 PM
hey, this is my first time trying it out too... in fact, i'm feeling really nervous over it, but hey, challenging myself could be a good thing... i can't swim(!!!) so see how training goes, maybe i can squeeze in some time for lessons, but i really am not sure...

i love cycling and i used to cycle lots while in malaysia... here, just too windy to cycle, plus nowadays living in city means it's not all that safe either with crazy drivers on the road... so i haven't been cycling for a long long time... miss that really...

well, you do lots of sports, so that's healthy too.. :)

euj
04-17-2005, 11:11 PM
i used to cycle everyday from sri manjung to sitiawan. more out of neccesity i guess. didn't realise i didn't really enjoy cycling and running till after school. i prefer activities with balls like cricket, tennis, squash...more stimulating for the mind...

LiLiaN
04-17-2005, 11:14 PM
oh, i am really really bad with sports... totally lacking the coordinations required for all the complex reactions... :o (probably also why my cousin completely gave up teaching me how to swim!)...

when i was at home, i cycle for leisure from kg koh to lumut and back nearly daily... sometimes to simpang tiga (since one of my best friends lives there)... that was great... i miss that lots...

anyway, i think i'd better run... otherwise i'm never going to get my work completely done today and i do want to go home early this evening... :)

talk soon... ciao ciao...

what about yourself, lil? how was your weekend? and yours, sila?
mine was ok although work is seeping into my weekends.. worked friday night and saturday morning, got stuff sent off and was finally done with work for the week. prepping to leave work for 4 weeks is hard.. :(

then watched tv (taped shows for the week - Law & Order, etc), played tennis saturday evening. i cooked saturday night and tonight (saturday was pasta with ground beef, artichoke hearts, sun dried tomatoes, mozzarella & parmesan cheeses, fresh oregano, garlic & olive oil. tonight was baked rainbow trout (lime, lemon grass, ginger, onions, and some other stuff i threw in), and roasted veggies (mushrooms, asparagus, potatoes, bell pepper with garlic, olive oil and chopped parsley).

today i went to watch a baseball scrimmage - season starts next week! woohooo! then ate leftover indian food, and took a nap (got up early to go to the game). then cooked and watched tv, also talked to my parents for an hour.

everybody's getting excited and geared up for the wedding!! :)

the pasta turned out nice - the secret is to sautee the beef and aromatics with some oil from the sun dried tomatoes - you get a nice infused oil in the jar.

the trout - i threw in chillis, bit of turmeric, fish oil, bit of olive oil and a wee bit of sugar just for kicks along with the onion, ginger, lemongrass, lime zest and juice. turned out nice. very low maintenance - put it together, marinate for 15-20 minutes, throw in the oven. habis cerita. no stirring. so easy to make :)

vin loves this dish - home made meatballs (i put ground beef or ground lamb, salt, pepper, parmesan cheese, breadcrumbs, & some herbs (whatever you've got - rosemary/parsley/thyme), and my (not so) secret ingredient (a tbs of kurma powder). make pasta of some sort short of al dente (vin likes ziti or penne). mix some marinara sauce, the almost cooked pasta, meatballs, ricotta cheese, mix it up. top with parmesan or mozzarella, bake for about 30 minutes.

hope this gives you some ideas :)

Wow Sila - you seem like a really good cook to me. Dinner has to be cooked in a short amount of time because Caleb and I need lots of time to work on our other part-time business that we have - BeadCharm (http://www.beadcharm.com) . Quick dinners include, curries, pasta dishes, chinese stir fries and the occasional chicken rice or nasi lemak.

Sorry yeah Euj, Lil and Sila - I hijack your thread sikit. ;)

:D dunno about brilliant but vin likes it. oh if you make the meatball dish, i didn't say to cook the meatball first (you can either bake - drizzle with a bit of olive oil and bake to cook - or you can just shallow fry it in a skillet on top of the stove). so basically the dish is pretty much cooked when you put it together, then bake to get the pasta to absorb the sauces and the cheese to melt.

well - since i only cook on weekends, i do tend to go a bit crazy sometimes. although sometimes it's quick pasta dishes. vin likes lamb curry - big lamb shoulder that i have to cook for at least 2 hours. i was impressed that vin likes sambal tumis telur :) sometimes i experiment - i've tried to make roti canai from scratch (turned out fair but a bit hard - so i have some more experimenting to do before it turns out the way i want it to), dhal, aloo gobi, etc. baked dishes include tuna casserole (ugh, so boring) and lasagna, and spanakopita. i love playing in the kitchen!! :D

I made some really good osso buco which I was happy about. caleb absolutely loved it. Instead of having mashed polenta - i made some creamy mashed potatoes. I was surprised at how easy it was to make osso buco. Very easy but only thing is that you gotta cook it on the stove for about 2 hours.

Have never tried makine tuna casserole, dhal or aloo gobi. I should....as for roti canai - I malas lah want to pusing pusing the thing - sekali I toss my roti canai round - the whole thing end up on my head pulak.....no skills lah! Rather buy frozen ones and make my own curry.

It's rare for westerners to tahan the smell of sambal...Vin must really be adventurous to wanna try our dishes!

i usually get inspiration from trying foods at restaurants or watching cooking shows, but i seem to be wired wrong. can never follow the recipe 100%. must put my own twist on things (which sometimes can be adventurous).

well, i don't even tell vin i put belacan in the sambal tumis (i use the maggi belacan that comes in a jar and you just shake out what you need - no need to use a big block of belacan and toast it and whatnot). fella likes it, i figure, why scare him away by telling him what's actually in it!!

Thanks for your kind words. Those jewellery ok ok nilah - I've seen more elaborate and nicer ones on websites. I take time to come up with pieces because I am not a very creative person myself. But when I do think of a nice pattern - I sometime take up to 1 day to finish. Most of my jewellery I've sold but some I've kept for myself. At the moment, I haven't been making much- just focusing solely on Beadcharm for now.

trust me man. zoom is way overrated. if it not small enough to fit in your pocket you'll wind up not taking it around with you, or if you do take it with you, you'll feel that it's such a hassle. i've given the size vs functional lots of thought. better to have it with you than leave it at home cos it's too heavy/big even if it has all the bells and whisltes...

how are you going to do the marathon. the trick is just to make sure you exercise at least 3 to 4 times a week. start with any time, then increase a little every day. small steps. it works. i'm the laziest person in the world. when i started could barely do 5 minutes.

i find if you can get past the first 5 minutes, then you'll be fine. another trick i use on days where i'm feeling not up to it, like today, is to have a double espresso before gym. really works. and i also listen to techno and dance music on my MP3 player like Fatboy Slim, Ian van Dahl, different DJs like DJ Tiesto and a lot of Euro Dance like DHT.

i can see your point. i have to admit, if i were going to buy another dig cam, i'd get one with SLR and interchangeable lenses. then i'd have 2 - one, small and portable and the one with all the gadgets on it.

i've decided that i'm going to start saving since i'm 30 next month. it was a promise to myself in 2002. spend till i'm 30. so next month it's time to close shop and start saving. i'd like to start a family, maybe in 2007 or something like that...

i dunno about whisky shots but usually beverages don't help me sleep. i need to achieve mental relaxation or physical exhaustion (or a combination of the 2). if i can't sleep i usually need to read or think happy thoughts, or think of a book i just read and try to make edits to it in my head (i know, lame and kind of vain, thinking i can better something a real author wrote - but it's a good exercise for me to do to make myself fall asleep). there have also been times that i got up and cleaned in the middle of the night just so i will exhaust myself and when i was done and got back to bed, hey presto, back to sleep. or else i have to try and figure out what i'm worried about and try and get some kind of interim resolution just so i can go to sleep.

no whisky for sila!! :)

used to in high school, but i'm not a big believer in that anymore. maybe i should get back into it. actually, had a thought last night - i feel like i need to reconnect with my spiritual side...

It's great you'll be doing something nice during the Anzac weekend. I will probably try something new (Bake/cook, whichever i feel like), catch up on my videos (sounds familiar, sila?!), work on beadcharm and spend more time catching up on reading which I haven't done for awhile now.

Am looking forward to our Labour day weekend (it's labour day for Queensland on the 1st May). Going to Sydney with Caleb till Tuesday - will be meeting up with old old friends. Might see if I can meet up with Artemis and her boyfriend whom I knew from high school. That would be interesting!

You are probably doing the right thing by not having a tv in your bedroom. I read an article once saying that we should free our bedroom from televisions and etc and that treat our bedrooms as santuaries where we can relax and rest. Don't know how true is this?

i need noise to sleep - radio or tv. my subconscious is overactive or something. i work better with a distraction like the tv or radio. that's how i used to study also - mesti depan tv or radio. otherwise nothing goes into my head. cannot study in silence. cannot work in silence either. i must be fairly annoying at work because i have caught myself humming to myself so it's not so damn quiet at the office :D

citrusy (who knows how to spell this angkat tangan, cause i sure don't! :p) is nice. i loooooove fizzy lime thingies in the bath. but with candles sometimes can't tell until you burn it whether it will give me a headache or not. so after many headaches i totally gave up on candles.. :D but on the whole i prefer fruity smells to anything else.

i can't smell in the shop either, need to stop breathing for a while while picking the items.. :p
by the way, the bath balls i get tend to be as big as a tennis ball so one is enough for one bath...

i salute the people who managed to stand the smell and work there!
i have to run past the open shop door even of candles/scent shops. linger to long, here comes the headache! pretty annoying sometimes. even soap i tend to stay away from floral scents...i found out the hard way that perfume makes me feel sick - i used to put some on my wrists and behind by ears. kept wondering why on earth i felt so ill, headachy and even nauseous - then realised i didn't feel this way if i skipped the perfume. so i stopped doing the behind the ears and just left a little on my wrists. every time i brought my hand up to my face, can feel my headache and my stomach heave.. so that was the end of perfume actually dabbed on my person. sometimes i still spray the air and do a bit of dancing around in the mist - that usually wears off pretty quickly and i don't feel too sick if i do that.

Sila
04-22-2005, 10:51 PM

i hate being stuck in a windowless no air flow small conference room with ppl who overdo the perfume/aftershave... adoi nak mati. my eyes start watering and turning red, sit there gingerly - if move too fast afraid head will fall of shoulders. terrible lah!! luckily hasn't happened in a while...
i can't stand car fresheners. the smell is so fake and sickeningly sweet!

euj

in that case, banyak perfum also useless, just making things worse...
ever try to be on long distance bus in winter with senior citizens on...?
esp one that hasn't showered for months because it's cold...
then with the heating on, my god, the worse case scenario!
sometimes the guys at the gym really stink. especially when they use the lat pull down machine and they are wearing singlets to show off their muscle. can't stand it!

these ang mohs especially dunno where they get the idea that it is ok to skip showers. oii we are not living in the dark ages lah. hot water comes magically out of the tap so in the winter you caaaaan shower daily. REALLY... somebody ought to teach them this lah.. the americans are better - just the hicks are loath to shower. the rest are quite clean. they get made fun of by the europeans for their daily showering habits!!
i have to admit, when it's really cold and i haven't sweated at all, sometimes i won't shower for a few days!

with indra around, chances of spending all weekend in there is a bit rare... :p
haha...i went out friday night and only got home sat morning at 7am! so the whole of saturday was gone just stoning around and sleeping a little. went to the motor show today and then coffee with some friends. indra is coming over later and i'm going to cook some fillet steak and we're going to watch Pearl Harbour or French Kiss on DVD cos she hasn't seen either. i'm more inclined to French Kiss cos it's shorter and less intense...

we have green bin in every household here too, for paper recycling...

Lava Gal
04-24-2005, 10:00 PM
yea lor.. :( but in Msia NATO attitude is very prevalent.
Have alwiyz thought it wud be g8 if each hse here has a recycle bin too...but hhmmm i can juz dream on...if onli i had legislative powers! hehe....

LiLiaN
04-24-2005, 10:04 PM
well, you see, bin collection here is quite regulated...
the collection is done only once a week... so it makes you more conscious about not to product waste unnecessarily...
plus, there's bin charge as well, and they're not cheap either....
of course, for people below certain threshold, they can get exemption...
this way, people are also more aware that the more waste they create, the more they pay the price...
recycling bin is collected once every 4 weeks, and it's free, so encourage recycling...

Sila
04-24-2005, 10:10 PM
we get our recycling collected with the garbage weekly - our bin is red though, lil :) paper, cans, everything! we do try to do our part for the environment.

Lava Gal

LiLiaN
04-24-2005, 10:12 PM
our green bin takes paper, cans but not bottles.. bottles go to bottle banks...
another step taken by government to keep the environment green...
for every plastic bag obtained in shop, they cost 15cents...
so encouraging people to bring their own green bags when shopping... :)

LiLiaN
04-24-2005, 10:13 PM
tanx 4 the enligtening explanation, Lilian...now i know y they r more recycle-conscious overseas...its $$$ matters lar. smart move by the gomen yeapartly for that, and partly because EU regulation is quite strict...
there's a directive that 60-70% level of recycling must be achieved...
a couple of years ago, irish government was fined for not meeting that target!!

Lava Gal
04-24-2005, 10:14 PM
Msia ada 3 different bin colours...orange, brown & ermm...blue i tink! (not sure of 2rd colour) :o
but no much point....conscious level still low

for me...i have a box to collect old newspapers...and my grasscutter collects old tins & bottles and sends them 2 a recycling centre. so, i keep them for him.
besides the satisfaction of recycling resources...feels good 2 know the extra $$$ will be of use to the old man & his family :)

Sila
04-24-2005, 10:15 PM
