apparently my colleague in ss2 said that the windows and plaster ceiling was shaking quite badly for almost a minute!!!

Strong earthquake recorded in eastern Indonesia
An earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter Scale has been recorded in the Banda Sea in eastern Indonesia, the Hong Kong Observatory reported.

The epicentre of the quake was initially determined to be over the eastern part of the Banda Sea, about 230 kilometres south-east of the city of Ambon, the observatory said in a statement.

It said it struck at 11:47pm local time on Saturday.

The quake was at the opposite end of the country to a 9.0-strong one off north-western Indonesia on December 26 that caused a tsunami that battered shorelines across the Indian Ocean, killing more than 270,000 people.

The tsunami-hit region has experienced a series of strong earthquakes since the quake.

when i got to Sunway Monash Condo to pick them up, i saw school of ppl with their pyjamas on ground zero.... then onli i know there was an earth quake.... not onli that place was evacuated even the apartment beside the Sunway LDP toll, ppl are just hanging around the road side.... hahahaha ppl like me just drive in and KP lo.... wah the amount of dogs they hide in the apartment....

i dunno lah.... i have been working in puchong for some time and always there are shakes here and there... it is quite common cos sunway and puchong jaya is a mining area, so it is common to have earth moving from time to time....

SYDNEY - Seorang pakar Australia semalam memberi amaran tentang prospek berlakunya letupan gunung berapi besar di Indonesia yang bakal meninggalkan kemusnahan lebih buruk berbanding bencana lain yang telah dialami sebelum ini. Profesor Ray Cas daripada Jabatan Geosains Universiti Monash berkata gunung berapi terbesar dunia ialah Danau Toba di Sumatera. Danau itu terletak di garis gelinciran yang merentasi bahagian tengah Sumatera.

Profesor Ray Cas dari Fakulti Geosains Universiti Monash berkata gunung berapi super volcano terbesar di dunia itu terletak di Tasik Toba, di Sumatera, Indonesia. Letupan gunung berapi itu kemungkinan berlaku dalam waktu terdekat dan di percayai Malaysia juga bakal menghadapi kesannya apabila di jangka beberapa kawasan bakal bergegar kuat, air laut bakal melimpah, tanah mendap dengan keluasan yang besar dan letusan gunung berapi itu juga di jangka bakal menggegarkan menara 'KLCC' hingga membuatkan ianya bergoyang kuat.

Sebelum ini, pakar seismologi meramalkan gempa bumi ketiga berlaku di

Sementara itu, Agensi Kaji Cuaca Jepun berkata hanya Singapura dan Sri Lanka memohon untuk menerima amaran awal tsunami daripada Jepun.

Selain 11 negara yang dilanda tsunami pada 26 Disember lalu, Jepun telah menawarkan amaran awal tsunami di rantau lain termasuk Australia, Britain, Mesir, Perancis dan Afrika Selatan. Para pegawai berkata negara lain mungkin mendapatkan amaran awal daripada Pusat Amaran Tsunami Pasifik yang berpangkalan di Hawaii. - AFP.

that's true, lake toba allegedly erupted for weeks about 73kya and was closedly linked to the event of ice age... this eruption is also thought to be the last supervolcano eruption that happened on earth...

the immediate threat of supervolcano is currently believed to lie beneath yellowstone park in america, but with the current flurries of activities in indonesia, lake toba is now a likely candidate for the next supervolcanic eruption too...

the reason yellowstone is seemingly a major threat is due to the activities around the area, by which in 2002 alone more than 2000 earthquakes were detected but not felt by human... also, the land around yellowstone (which really was just a cover to a gigantic volcano underneath) has risen several inches in recent years...

e.g. the st helen eruption cause a couple of celcius of falling temperature...
and that toba was about 2500 times bigger than st helen... so go figure...

i'm not trying to incite fear or anything...
just sharing the information that i've got...

please also bear in mind geological datings are in terms of thousands of years...
so statistical error could easily occur as well...
